It stormed last night in Minnesota. My house only got a small amount of rain but you could tell something was going on somewhere because suddenly there was a very eerie yellow/orange cast outside and the clouds looked like this:
The sun was setting on some very disturbing clouds.
Turns out after some research today, that these are mammatus clouds. They come as a tornadic storm is ending and there were deadly tornados just south of us.

Jamie, Those are great photos!
Wow! Great photos. I noticed that same eerie yellow color out my window that night too, but didn't get outside to snap some photos! Glad to hear you didn't get hit too hard. We didn't either.
Wow - that's incredible! I grew up in Chicago and vividly remember clouds like that and the storms they brought with them.
Great photos!
Cheers,
Anne
I love weather like that! Those photos are fantastic. Such rich color...especially for right out of the camera.
Great photos. We had a tornado destroy our main event arena in our town last Sunday. We were driving back from a camping trip and saw the clouds. We knew it was a big storm but had no idea there was a tornado. I shared a video my cousin took of the tornado ripping apart the arena on my facebook page. Add me as a friend on Facebook to view. You'll find me under Michelle Breum. I don't know of how else to link to the video.
Thanks for sharing your photos and tips. I'd like to get better at photography. I'm going to be checking in with your blog more often.
Wow - look at those colors!! It looks like it should be in a sci fi movie or something! Great shots!!
