Before and After

I know you saw this picture at the beginning of the week (sorry you're seeing it again).  Ironically I used it in a post about too much photo editing and now I'm using it in a photo editing blog hop!

The thing is, I've been trying to get a portriat-type photo of Tottie for our wall to match Nutty's updated preschool picture.  What I've learned, is that taking portraits of a 2 year old is near impossible!  In all my shots the lighting is off or she's got a funny face, or her hand is in the way.  I've been trying for over a week to get a good shot!

I love this shot of Tottie (Taken with my Canon SX20, program mode, f 4, 1/80, ISO 125)  but it's too far away and I don't like where her hand is.

I cropped it but I still don't like her hand.  I also don't like the break in the fence above her head.  I coloned both of those out and bumped up the saturation just a smidge using Gimp photo editing software.  Now I finally have a portrait of Tottie I deem worthy of my wall!

Hey, check back a little later in the day.  It's my 1 Year Boggerversary today (!) and I'm putting up a post related to that!

I'm so glad you posted these again. I have a bit of CC regarding your topic before. I want you to look really closely at your daughter cheeks in each picture and think about which one is more touchable. Which will ake you remember how soft and smooth her skin is in 50 years?

It's a nice edit and a nice resulting photo, but you are still losing a piece of the memory in my opinion.

Great point Heidi! That's why I ultimately decided to leave the coloring alone (except to boost it up a bit) on the picture for my wall. If you also notice, I left the little mark on her nose too! The edit in my previous post I decided that I liked but it was too trendy and it wasn't really her. A lot of my decision was based on the comments from my previous post!

Cute photo! Your cloning ability is awesome! I can do it on minor touch ups, but to do that is amazing. Great job.

I like that you cropped the photo and eliminated the gaps in the fence. I think the hand should stay as it is part of your daughter's personality. Also, your daughter's shoulders don't match when you cut and paste the right arm sleeve onto the left arm sleeve. That type of edit never looks natural.
